Khust: what to see on your way to Shayan
Khust adds a town walk and a climb to castle ruins to your stay in Shayan. The town is 18 km from the estate, around 25 minutes by car. If arriving by train, you can explore the town before continuing to Shayan.
Checked: October 2026
Castle hill: the climb and the view
Khust Castle is a ruin on a volcanic hill overlooking the town and the Tysa valley. Allow around 20 minutes for the climb itself, or 40–50 minutes for the full walk from the centre or station. These are different parts of the route; allow time for the descent too.
Wear comfortable shoes, bring water and check the weather before climbing. With suitcases, it is better to go to your accommodation first. To compare Khust Castle with other fortresses, see our guide to the castles of Zakarpattia.

Khust to Shayan: taxi or minibus
Khust is about 18 km from the estate, or 25 minutes by car, excluding waiting time. A local taxi costs roughly 400 UAH: this is the estate’s estimate, not a confirmed fare. Agree on the total price, meeting point and luggage before boarding. The estate does not provide transfers.
A minibus is another option for reaching Shayan. Check departures, the boarding point and the last return service with the bus station or carrier on the day. A train arrival does not guarantee a convenient connection; arrange a taxi in advance if arriving late.

A relaxed half-day plan
Start in the centre and visit the museum if it is open. In dry weather, walk up to the castle, come back for lunch and allow time to reach Shayan. Choose the farm or cheese dairy as a separate addition rather than fitting everything between your train and check-in.
Before leaving, check an up-to-date map for the ATM, pharmacy or shop you need and confirm opening hours. This itinerary does not guarantee round-the-clock services. After your walk, return to a stay in Shayan or browse the estate’s apartments.
