How to Drink Mineral Water Properly
Mineral water is medicine. Like any medicine, it requires the right dosage, temperature, and timing. The same type of water can heal or harm — it all depends on how you drink it. This guide compiles all the expertise of the Shayan pump room so you can get maximum benefit from every sip.
General Intake Guidelines
Drink slowly, in small sips — this ensures maximum contact of the mineral water with the stomach and intestinal lining. Drinking quickly in large gulps is only suitable for stimulating peristalsis in hypotonic conditions. Hold each sip in your mouth for 2–3 seconds — minerals begin to be absorbed through the oral mucosa.
Water Temperature
For treating high-acidity stomach conditions, liver, gallbladder (hypertonic dyskinesia). Warm water relieves smooth muscle spasm, relaxes, and inhibits secretion. Heat in a water bath or thermos — not in a microwave.
For treating kidneys and urinary tract. Room-temperature water maximally enhances the diuretic effect. Also suitable for general wellness intake.
For stimulation in cases of constipation, hypotonic biliary dyskinesia, and low stomach acidity. Gas and cold irritate receptors, stimulating peristalsis and secretion.
When to drink in relation to meals
Liver, gallbladder, kidneys, high stomach acidity. The water has time to reach the duodenum, where it activates reflexes that inhibit stomach secretion.
Hypotonic biliary dyskinesia. The extended interval gives the water time to stimulate gallbladder contraction and ensure proper bile flow.
Low stomach acidity (hypoacid gastritis), intestinal disorders, heartburn after meals. The water stimulates gastric juice production for better digestion.
Dosage
The standard single dose is 100–250 ml. General formula: 3–5 ml per kilogram of body weight per day. For a 70 kg person, this is 210–350 ml per day, divided into 3 servings. Start with the minimum dose and increase gradually over the first 3–5 days. Never exceed the recommended dose — excess mineral salts burden the kidneys.
Course Duration
A standard treatment course is 3–6 weeks. Optimally, the course is taken 2–4 times a year. The minimum effective course is 21 days. The break between courses is at least 3 months. For prevention, 2 courses per year are sufficient (spring and autumn). For treating chronic conditions — 3–4 courses per year.
Degassing: when and how
Most therapeutic protocols require degassed water. Gas irritates the stomach lining and stimulates secretion — this is only beneficial for low acidity and hypotonic conditions. To degass water: pour it into a glass and stir with a spoon for 30–60 seconds. You can also pour it back and forth between two glasses several times. Keep the water carbonated only for constipation and hypotonic biliary dyskinesia.
When mineral water should not be consumed
- Peptic ulcer exacerbation with bleeding
- Gallstone disease with large stones
- Acute renal failure
- Severe insulin-dependent diabetes
- Pyloric stenosis
- Any disease in the acute phase
Practical Tips
- Drink slowly, in small sips — 5–7 minutes per glass
- Heat in a water bath, not in a microwave
- Start with the minimum dose, increase gradually
- Degass the water with a spoon — 30–60 seconds of stirring
- Do not mix water intake with meals — maintain the interval
- Use a thermos to maintain the temperature
- Keep an intake diary — record the time, dose, and how you feel
- The pump room is open daily — come three times a day before meals
