Gastro Tour of Zakarpattia — Flavors of the Carpathians
Zakarpattia is Ukraine's gastronomic paradise. Here, Hungarian, Romanian, Slovak, and Ukrainian culinary traditions intertwine. The result is the unique Zakarpattia cuisine with its bograch, banosh, bryndza cheese, and homemade wine. Zakarpattia Provence Estate in Shayan is the ideal base for gastronomic journeys through the region.
Zakarpattia winemaking has a centuries-old history. The region is known for its white and red wines, as well as a unique dessert wine from Isabella grapes. Near Shayan, there are several wineries where you can taste local varieties and buy wine to take home. Tastings usually include 5–7 wine varieties with a cheese plate and cost from 200 ₴ per person.

A unique gastronomic experience — mushroom season in the Carpathians. From July to October, the forests around Shayan abound with porcini, chanterelles, and honey mushrooms. Many of our guests come especially in autumn to combine their vacation with "quiet hunting." You can cook your finds on the BBQ grill right at the estate — there is nothing tastier than freshly picked mushrooms grilled over an open fire.
Near the estate, there are several restaurants serving authentic Zakarpattia cuisine. Be sure to try bograch — a rich meat soup with paprika, banosh with bryndza cheese and cracklings, machanka with porcini mushrooms, and homemade strudels with apples or cherries. We are happy to recommend the best venues and help with table reservations.
