Shayanska water: indications and contraindications according to open sources

reference informationa doctor's advice

The Trembita wellness complex associates Shayanska water with diseases of the digestive system, the liver and the bile ducts, and with metabolic disorders. However, in May 2025 the Antimonopoly Committee found that the producer had not substantiated some of the medical indications stated on the label. This page merely relays the sources and is not a recommendation: mineral water is not a medicine, so if you have any medical condition, consult a doctor first.

What the sources say about using the water

According to the Trembita wellness complex, Shayanska water is recommended for chronic diseases of the intestines and stomach, diseases of the liver and bile ducts, and metabolic disorders. This is a statement by the website about the water, not the result of an independent review. Each topic is covered separately on the pages about the stomach, the liver and diabetes.

The authors of a 1998 article in the Uzhhorod University bulletin link the sulfates of Shayanska-4, combined with magnesium and bicarbonates, to a mild antacid and choleretic effect. This is the conclusion of the authors of a single publication, and we do not present it as an established fact.

What the Antimonopoly Committee established

On 29 May 2025, the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine fined Aqua-Polyana LLC over UAH 3.3 million for misleading information about the medical indications of “Shayanska” water on its labels. According to press reports, the company did not provide evidence for these indications, and the Ukrainian Research Institute of Rehabilitation and Balneology of the Ministry of Health stated that some of the indications had not been studied in clinical trials of the water.

Among the indications named as unconfirmed in the decision:

  • uncomplicated peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum
  • hepatitis and cholecystitis
  • chronic pancreatitis
  • metabolic disorders, including obesity, gout, oxaluria and phosphaturia

That is why we do not claim that Shayanska water treats or relieves any of these conditions, and we promise no health result.

Contraindications and cautions

The Trembita wellness complex lists the following contraindications to drinking Shayanska water:

  • bleeding
  • exacerbations of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract
  • impaired patency of the urinary and bile ducts

The same source warns that side effects are possible in disorders of sodium metabolism. According to its laboratory table, the sodium content is 729 mg/l in Shayanska-242 and 925 mg/l in Shayanska-4. The list of contraindications may be incomplete.

Consult a doctor before drinking the water if:

  • you have a chronic condition or are under a doctor's supervision
  • you take medication
  • you are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • your doctor has put you on a salt-restricted diet
  • the water is intended for a child
